Andean Pathways project launched to position the Andean Community as a global multi-destination tourism destination

  • The following web page is available to the public https://caminosandinos.travel/, This is the first of its kind in the Andean region, in which the integrated tourism offer of the Andean countries is presented through 16 roads made up of 42 destinations.
  • Caminos Andinos expects to increase the number of tourists visiting the Andean Community.
  • The objective of the III Andean Air Transport Forum is to facilitate Andean air connectivity as an incentive to attract more world travelers to the CAN countries.

Bogotá (Colombia), August 27, 2025. With the aim of positioning the Andean Community (CAN), made up of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, as a global multi-destination for tourism, the General Secretariat of the CAN and Andean tourism authorities launched the “Andean Roads” project at the headquarters of the Bogota Chamber of Commerce.

This initiative presents the tourism offer of the Andean subregion in an integrated manner, taking into account common elements: culture, nature, gastronomy, ancestral and rural communities and handicrafts. To this end, the Caminos Andinos digital platform has been made available to travelers from the Andean Community and the world, https://caminosandinos.travel/, This section presents 16 “roads”, which are made up of 42 destinations, including both established and lesser-known attractions.

On the Caminos Andinos website, tourists can find all the information they need to plan their next trip to the Andean countries, with useful information such as access, currencies, climate, among other relevant data.

The presentation was attended by Andean tourism authorities: Ecuador's Minister of Tourism, Monica Riquetti; Bolivia's Deputy Minister of Tourism, Hiver Flores; Peru's Deputy Minister of Tourism, Aracelly Laca; and Colombia's Deputy Minister of Tourism (e), Jhon Alexander Ramos.

The Secretary General of the Andean Community, Ambassador Gonzalo Gutiérrez, recalled that the Andean countries today represent 1% of the total flow of international tourists. “This figure challenges and inspires us. This percentage does not reflect either our capabilities or the potential we have as a region. With this initiative we aspire to transform this panorama in order to diversify the tourism offer. Tourism is an engine that can further energize our economies and generate more employment,” he said.

Tourism is a priority sector for the development of the territories as a source of employment and economic growth. In the CAN, 80% of the companies in the sector are micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), which provide jobs for guides, entrepreneurs, among others. Tourism generates approximately 3.8 million jobs in the region and contributes, on average, 2% to the GDP of each Andean country. This sector also accounts for a significant percentage of female employment. In 2024, the Andean Community received approximately 11.6 million non-resident visitors.

III Andean Air Transport Forum

On the other hand, the III Andean Air Transport Forum, with the participation of various players in the airline industry in the Andean sub-region, aims to improve connectivity in the sector and achieve a more competitive, efficient, sustainable and integrated regional market. Facilitating Andean air connectivity will be an incentive to attract more world travelers to the CAN.

In this way, it is hoped to promote Andean provisions that will allow more citizens to travel through the subregion, which would increase the percentage they represent of the total number of visits in the Andean Community. In 2024, intra-Community passengers from the Andean Community accounted for 16.2% of total visitors. This is feasible taking into account experiences such as that of the European Union, which, in 2022, according to Eurostat data, recorded that 44% of EU travelers were from intra-Community sources. Likewise, a greater intra-EU air interconnection would increase flights per capita in the CAN, which currently stands at 0.6 flights per capita between Andean citizens, while in North America it is 2.5 and in Spain 4.6.
