The Peru<\/a> was elected as a member of the Executive Council of UN Tourism for the 2025-2027 period, representing the Americas region. The decision was adopted during the 70th Meeting of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for the Americas (CAM), the highest tourism governance forum in the continent, which was held in Lima with the participation of delegations from more than 20 countries.<\/div>
\u00a0<\/div>
Three seats were elected at this session, with Peru, Argentina and Brazil representing the Americas region on this Council, which is the main administrative body of UN Tourism. In addition, the Dominican Republic, Bahamas and Paraguay will take the post for the 2027 - 2029 period.<\/div>

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru<\/a>, Desil\u00fa Le\u00f3n thanked the delegations for the support given to Peru and underscored her commitment to strengthening tourism in the Americas. \u00abPeru renews its commitment to the region of the Americas and seeks to make its own the interests and initiatives that each of you wish to promote within the framework of UN Tourism. We will work for a resilient and dynamic tourism that contemplates the entire productive chain, so that no one is left behind,\u00bb said Minister Le\u00f3n.<\/div>

As a member of the Executive Council, Peru will play a strategic role in the formulation of international policies that respond effectively to the sector's current challenges. It is worth mentioning that, along with Peru, the Dominican Republic was also elected to the Executive Council for the region.<\/div>

The 70th CAM was attended by UN Tourism Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili, Executive Director Natalia Bayona, ministers of state, deputy ministers and delegations from more than 20 countries. During the event, representatives were also appointed to subsidiary bodies such as the Technical Committee of the International Code for the Protection of Tourists, the Online Tourism Education Committee, and the host country was recommended to celebrate World Tourism Day 2026. Finally, it was confirmed that the next CAM meeting will be held in 2026 in Paraguay, while the 2027 edition will be held in Argentina.<\/div>

Commitment to UN Tourism<\/strong><\/div>
During the inauguration of the 70th CAM Meeting, Minister Desil\u00fa Le\u00f3n conveyed the greetings of the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, who nominated the country to host this important meeting, reaffirming the government's firm commitment to the principles and objectives of UN Tourism.<\/div>

The head of Mincetur highlighted Peru's leadership in the implementation of initiatives aligned with UN Tourism and reaffirmed our commitment to multilateral cooperation and tourism as a driver of development. She highlighted that Peru is proud to be the first country in the world to adhere to a customized version of UN Tourism's Star tool for tourism development in rural destinations. She also welcomed the recent inauguration of the UN Tourism Regional Office for the Americas in Rio de Janeiro.<\/div>

It is important to mention that the 70th CAM Meeting was preceded by the International Seminar \u201cArtificial Intelligence and Tourism in the Americas\u201d, which generated an important space for reflection on the impact of AI in the transformation of the sector. Thus, having successfully hosted this high-level event, Peru is consolidating its position as an attractive destination for the development of international meetings, strengthening its position in the MICE segment (meetings, incentives, congresses and exhibitions).<\/div>
